Dermal fillers can be used to treat fine lines, loss of volume and wrinkles of the face. They are mainly used to treat the lower face including the marionette lines (from mouth to chin), nasolabial folds (nose to mouth) and perioral (around the mouth) Dermal fillers are a smooth gel containing Hyaluronic acid which is naturally occurring in our bodies. It is injected under the skin into the dermis for instant results. A fine needle or a cannula may be used along with anaesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable. The amount of product required and anticipated results will be discussed during your consultation.

+ How long will the results last?

This will depend on a few factors. The body will gradually break down dermal fillers over time, generally patients will expect to see results for 6-9 months however lifestyle plays a huge part on this. Avoiding sun exposure, keeping hydrated, stopping smoking and taking care of your skin with a good skin care range will help to maintain results.

+ What will I look like immediately after?

As a fine needle or cannula is used there can be some redness, raised areas and swelling directly after the treatment, bruising may appear shortly after. Most people are happy to carry on with their day post treatment although we strongly advise avoiding social events in the first few days. A sterile cover up can be applied following the treatment, using Arnica tablets or cream prior to treatment is recommended if you are prone to bruising although make up (after 6 hours) usually cover it well.

+ Does it hurt?

A strong topical anaesthetic is applied to the area prior to the treatment and local anaesthetic is already mixed with the Juvederm dermal fillers so it’s numb during the procedure. There may be a very mild discomfort but that is all.

+ Is it safe?

Juvederm products are FDA approved and provide certified medical devices. They carry the European CE mark and are only purchased through reputable pharmacy’s.

+ Can it be reversed?

Yes, dermal fillers an be broken down with an antidote called hyalase. This can be prescribed and administered by Zoe if required. It is very rare for a patient to request dermal fillers be reversed but it is reassuring to know that it can be done. Zoe may choose to reverse existing dermal filler before your treatment if deemed necessary, this will be discussed during your consultation.
