Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy treatments are ideal for patients that would like to have a procedure to minimise fine lines and wrinkles, or work on the eye area but do not want to have something like wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.
PRP involves taking a sample of the patients blood, which is put into a centrifuge where the blood is spun in order to separate the red blood cells from the platelet plasma.
Platelet plasma is then reinjected into certain areas, the platelets release their growth factors which stimulate other cells in the area to regenerate and create collagen.
It is a more natural way of treating the skin. This procedure is fantastic for areas that can’t always be treated with other injectables such as around the eyes for lines and eyebags.
+ What happens during the treatment
A sample of your blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge to seperate the plasma from the red blood cells. While it is spinning a topical anaesthetic is applied to your skin. Once the platelets are removed we can reinject them into areas that you are concerned with. The plasma goes a long way so multiple areas can be treated.
+ How does it feel?
The skin will be numb, although few patients describe a 'fizzing' feeling on injection of the platelets.
+ What will I look like straight after?
You will look a little red and blotchy, there might be a little bruising at the injection sites.
+ When will I see the results?
You will see an improvement immediately, although the best results are seen 4-6 weeks after the treatment. Some patients require more than one session, this will be discussed during your consultation and is usually age dependant.
